• Fail Safe – The crew of a US bomber equipped with nuclear warheads gets an order to launch a nuclear attack on Moscow. The order is given as a result of a technical problem. The US government realises what is about to happen and tries to stop the launch. Over the telephone “hot line”, the US informs the Soviet Union about how to stop the plane, but the Soviet army also fails. To avoid a global nuclear war, the US President decides to drop a similar bomb on New York.

• Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb – a Stanley Kubrick satire with a theme similar to Fail Safe.

• Wargames – To avoid the human factor, a computer with artificial intelligence controls the US nuclear weapons. this turns problematic when a young boy by mistake hacks into the Pentagon and plays the “game” Global Thermonuclear War. The movie gave inspiration to the computer game Defcon.

• The Sum Of All Fears – A thriller about a terrorist who gets his hands on a secret nuclear weapon from the Six Days War and transports it to the US,There he detonates it during a rugby game, making it look like an act of Russia. Now it is up to CIA agent Jack Ryan to avoid an outbreak of a nuclear war between the US and Russia.

• Atomic Train – Action movie from 1999 about a train accident with a train carrying a Russian nuclear weapon.

• Jericho – A series about life in a village after a nuclear war.
